Open parkland at the Battle of Malcolm's Mills site in Oakland

Oakland

Oakland is a small rural community south-west of Brantford, where County Road 24 meets Oakland Road. It is quiet, green and steeped in history, and it suits buyers who want country space within about 20 minutes of the city.

What is Oakland known for?

History buffs know Oakland as Malcolm's Mills, where American raiders and local militia clashed in November 1814 in one of the last land battles of the War of 1812 in Upper Canada. A plaque marks the site, and much of the battlefield is now parkland.

Today it is a quiet farming community with a handful of streets, a community park and a lot of open sky. Life here is about space, gardens and knowing your neighbours by name.

Who does Oakland suit?

Buyers who want a rural lot without a long drive into Brantford, people looking for a hobby farm or workshop space, and retirees who want peace and quiet. Families should plan on school buses and a short drive for groceries and activities.

Because Oakland is small, homes come up rarely. We often show buyers Oakland and Scotland together, along with Burford and Waterford if they are flexible on location.

What homes are available in Oakland?

Expect older farmhouses, bungalows on large lots and country homes with outbuildings, mostly on private wells and septic systems. Very little new construction happens here, which is part of the appeal.
