Historic stone and brick storefronts on the main street of St. George

St. George

St. George is the village people describe as the friendliest little town they know. A walkable Main Street of shops and heritage buildings, a fall festival that fills the streets, and open country in every direction, with Brantford, Cambridge and Hamilton all within easy reach.

What is it like to live in St. George?

Small in the best way. Main Street has antique shops, a pub, a tea room and heritage buildings, and it is the kind of place where shop owners know your name. In the fall, AppleFest takes over the village with vendors, food and a street party, and much of the town turns out to volunteer.

Day to day, families get the village school, parks and a short drive to everything else. Groceries and bigger shopping are a quick trip to Brantford or Cambridge, which most residents happily trade for quiet streets and dark skies at night.

Where is St. George, and how is the commute?

St. George sits north of Brantford, between the city and Cambridge. It is a popular landing spot for couples who work in different directions: Brantford and Cambridge are each roughly 15 to 20 minutes away, and Highway 403 takes you to Hamilton in about 35. Highway 401 is within easy reach to the north.

Because the village sits in rolling farm country, many homes outside the core are on larger lots or acreage. If you are looking at those, our guide to buying rural property with a well and septic covers the checks that matter.

What homes are there in St. George?

In the village core you will find century homes and older brick houses, some with deep lots. Newer subdivisions on the edges add two-storey family homes and bungalows. Out in the countryside, there are farmhouses, hobby farms and country homes on a few acres.

St. George is small, so the number of homes for sale at any one time is limited. Our St. George listings page shows what is available in and around the village, and our living in St. George guide has more on daily life.

Questions

St. George questions, answered

Ask us something else

Where is St. George, Ontario?

St. George is a village in the County of Brant, north of Brantford and south of Cambridge. It was part of South Dumfries Township before the county was formed. Brantford and Cambridge are each roughly 15 to 20 minutes away by car, and Hamilton is about 35 minutes via Highway 403.

What is St. George AppleFest?

AppleFest is the village's big fall festival, held each September. Main Street fills with vendors, food, music and family activities, and there is a street party in the evening. It draws visitors from across the region and is run with a lot of local volunteer help, which says a good deal about the community spirit in St. George.

What schools serve St. George?

St. George-German Public School serves elementary students in the village, and Catholic elementary options are available through the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic board. High school students usually attend Paris District High School or a Brantford secondary school depending on board and program. Check the boards' school locator tools for any specific address.

Why do some St. George listings look rural?

Real estate listings group St. George with the surrounding South Dumfries countryside, so a search for St. George also shows farms and country properties outside the village. That is handy if you are open to either, and we can narrow it down to the village itself if you only want to be in town. Just call us at 519-755-1180.
