St. George is a village a short drive north of Brantford, ringed by farmland and country homes. Buying here usually means choosing between a house in the village and a property out in the surrounding countryside, and each comes with its own set of questions.

Listings here include St. George and the rural countryside around it, so not every home shown is in the village itself.

In the village, older homes sit close to Main Street, many with the detail and quirks you would expect from houses that have stood for a century or more. Around them are post-war bungalows and side splits, and on the edges of the village, newer two-storey homes with attached garages.
Outside the village, the South Dumfries countryside offers country homes on an acre or more, hobby farms and larger farm properties. That is why the listings above include homes that are a few minutes' drive from the village itself. For what it is like to live here, see our St. George community page and the living in St. George guide.
A village home keeps you walking distance from the shops, school and community events, usually with simpler servicing and neighbours close by. A country property gives you space and privacy, but adds a well, a septic system, more driving and often more snow to clear. Neither is better; they suit different households.
Think about who will be driving where, every day. If you are commuting to Cambridge or Hamilton, the country roads north and east of the village may suit you better than those to the south. If children will walk to school, the village is easier.
On older village homes, check the foundation, wiring, plumbing and any heritage features you plan to change. On country properties, test the well, inspect the septic, and look at the condition and permitted use of any barns or shops. Get a survey if fences and boundaries are unclear.
Ask about servicing for every property, since it can change within the village. If you also need to sell, our Brant County selling page explains how we handle rural and village sales so the two moves line up.
