It sits in the former township of South Dumfries, which is why real estate listings for the area often show South Dumfries rather than St. George. Why do some St. George listings say South Dumfries?

South Dumfries is the former township that includes St. George and the rural area surrounding it, and the real estate board uses it as the area name. So a listing shown under South Dumfries may be in the village or several minutes away on a country road. Check the actual address and map location for each property before you book a showing.

Is St. George a good place to live if I work in Cambridge or Hamilton?

Many residents commute from St. George. Cambridge is about 15 minutes north, and Hamilton is reachable via Highway 403 in roughly 30 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic and where you are going. Brantford is close for errands. Before you buy, drive the route at the time of day you would actually travel, especially in winter if the property is rural.
