Brantford Township and Mount Pleasant

The former Brantford Township is the band of County of Brant countryside that rings the city, with the historic village of Mount Pleasant just to the south. It is where you find big lots, country homes and village streets within ten minutes of Brantford's shops and schools.

What is Mount Pleasant like?

Mount Pleasant is one of the oldest settlements in the area, with a main road lined by historic houses, including an octagonal home from the 1840s, and a walking tour that tells the village's story. Dr. Augusta Stowe-Gullen, the first woman to graduate in medicine from a Canadian university, grew up here.

Daily life is relaxed. The Windmill Country Market is a local favourite, Mount Pleasant Nature Park has trails around its ponds, and the rail trail links the village to Brantford for walkers and cyclists. The elementary school is in the village, and Brantford's high schools are a short bus ride north.

What about the rest of the former township?

Beyond Mount Pleasant, the old township is a ring of farmland, country roads and small clusters of homes around the city edge. It is ideal for buyers who want an acre or two, a detached garage or shop, and quiet evenings, with Brantford's hospital, shopping and Highway 403 never far away.

Near the city boundary, it is worth confirming which municipality a property is in. The City of Brantford and the County of Brant have different property taxes, services and bylaws, and boundaries on the edge of the city have shifted over the years.

What kinds of homes are here?

In Mount Pleasant: century homes, older bungalows and newer custom builds on generous lots. Elsewhere: country bungalows, farmhouses and estate-style homes, typically on private well and septic outside the village.

      Questions

      Ask us something else

      Where is Mount Pleasant, Ontario?

Mount Pleasant is a village in the County of Brant, along Mount Pleasant Road about 5 kilometres south of Brantford. Downtown Brantford is about 10 minutes away, and Hamilton is roughly 30 to 40 minutes. It sits in what was Brantford Township before the County of Brant was formed.

Is Brantford Township part of Brantford?

No. Brantford Township was a separate rural township that became part of the County of Brant in 1999. It surrounds the City of Brantford but is governed by the county, so property taxes, services and bylaws follow county rules. Real estate listings still use the name Brantford Township for this area.

Does Mount Pleasant have municipal water?

Parts of Mount Pleasant are on municipal water, while homes outside the village core often rely on private wells, and most of the area uses septic systems. Service varies street by street, so check the listing details and confirm with the County of Brant. We help buyers add the right water and septic conditions to their offers.

      What schools serve Mount Pleasant?

Mount Pleasant has its own elementary school run by the Grand Erie District School Board. High school students usually attend a Brantford secondary school. Catholic elementary and secondary options are available through the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic board. Boundaries can change, so confirm for any specific address.
