The bandstand in Lynnwood Park, Simcoe, on a bright summer day

Simcoe

Simcoe is the county seat and the place most of Norfolk comes to for groceries, appointments and the hospital. It is a practical, friendly town with older brick neighbourhoods, newer subdivisions and Lake Erie a short drive south.

What makes Simcoe a good place to live?

Simcoe has the services that make small-town life easy: a hospital, a full range of shopping, recreation centres, schools from kindergarten to grade 12, and county offices. You get all of that with short drives, quiet streets and Lake Erie only 15 minutes away.

It is a town of traditions too. The Norfolk County Fair fills the fall calendar, and the Christmas Panorama in Wellington Park has lit up the holidays for generations.

Where do Simcoe residents get outside?

The Lynn Valley Trail starts in Simcoe and follows the old rail line along the Lynn River to Port Dover, a favourite for walkers and cyclists. Parks and conservation areas dot the town, and the beaches at Port Dover and Turkey Point are an easy summer evening trip.

What homes will you find in Simcoe?

The older streets near downtown have solid brick homes, Victorian houses and storey-and-a-halfs on mature lots. Post-war bungalows and back-splits fill the middle of town, and newer subdivisions on the edges offer two-storeys, bungalows and townhouses.

That range makes Simcoe a good fit for first-time buyers, families and downsizers alike. See homes for sale in Simcoe.

Ask us something else

Is Simcoe, Ontario a good place to live?

Simcoe is a comfortable, practical town with a hospital, full shopping, schools and recreation, plus quick access to Lake Erie beaches. It suits families, retirees and anyone who wants small-town living with services close by. Commuting to larger cities takes longer, so it works best if you work locally, remotely or in Brantford.

Is there a hospital in Simcoe?

Yes. Norfolk General Hospital is in Simcoe and serves much of Norfolk County. That is one reason Simcoe and the nearby towns are popular with retirees and families. Brantford General Hospital is also within about 40 minutes for more specialized care.

How far is Simcoe from Brantford?

Simcoe is about 35 to 40 minutes south of Brantford by car, mainly along Highway 24. Port Dover is about 15 minutes south-east of Simcoe, and Hamilton is roughly an hour away via Highway 6 or Highway 403. Many Simcoe residents work in Brantford and make the drive daily.

What schools are in Simcoe?

Simcoe has several Grand Erie District School Board elementary schools, including Elgin Avenue, Lynndale Heights and West Lynn, plus Simcoe Composite School for secondary students. The Catholic board runs Holy Trinity Catholic High School and Catholic elementary schools in town. Confirm boundaries for any address with the boards.
